Programme Objectives

The programme applies mathematical and statistical methods to finance and insurance, particularly to assessment of risks. It is designed to embrace the more sophisticated mathematical modeling in finance. It also focus on industries, financial institutions, insurance and health sectors with emphasis on the theory underlining actuarial science procedures, practices and trends. Specifically, the course is designed to;
Educating intending students in the theory and practices of actuarial science;
Providing middle and senior managers an opportunity to acquire education in actuarial science;
Develop the potentials and increase proficiency of students in modern actuarial science;
Complement government’s efforts on training and manpower development, research and development in lifting up productivity to the economy of the country
Develop high-level manpower in the insurance, stock market and financial sector of the economy
Develop the students to such a level that will enable them to obtain maximum exemptions from the courses examined by various international professional actuarial bodies.

Admission Requirements

A candidate with a minimum of second class lower degree in Statistics or cognate subject area from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. A graduate of any other approved University with a minimum of second class lower degree and a person who holds an approved qualification in Sciences, Social Sciences or any professional certification, e.g. Associate Member of Society of Actuaries (SOA), Associate member of Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) etc. adjudged to be equivalent to a first degree with mathematical background.
